LU cross-country team aims high

BY SCOTT HUNTER HADDOW [email protected] The Laurentian University women's cross-country running team is ready to burn rubber. The curtain has lifted on the 2005-06 season, and the team is prepared for the best in the province and Canada.

Sudbury's Olympic women's hockey team hopeful wins gold, again.

Tessa Bonhomme, 20, recently competed for Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup in Finland. Bonhomme and her teammates claimed gold after dispatching the United States 2-1 in the final game.

Ringette league looking for players

The Sudbury Ringette Association is now accepting player registration for the 2005-06 season. Interested athletes can go to Westmount Playground from Sept. 12-14 to sign up. For more information, check out www.sudburyringetteassoc.

Local woman cracks Top-60 at world championships

Amanda Sin finished 58th out of 74 starters at the recent UCI Mountain Bike World Championships held in Livigno, Italy. Sin competed in the Elite Women's Division on Sept 4.

Fans of high school football can quench their thirst for gridiron action today. The annual North versus South Classic is back, featuring the best high school football wars in the city. The wild excitement starts at 4 pm at Queen's Athletic Field.

The Copper Cliff Ice Angels are holding tryouts for the team this week on Wednesday, Aug. 31 and Thursday, Sept. 1. The Aug. 31 tryout will be held at the McClelland Arena from 7 to 9 pm. The Sept.

Local baseball players headed to provincials

The Valley East Vipers peewee baseball team is going to the Ontario Baseball Association Peewee C division championships this week. The event is being held in Leamington, Ont. and runs from Friday, Sept. 2 to Sunday, Sept. 4.

Hockey shrine needs help identifying jersey

Hockey Heritage North (HHN), in Kirkland Lake, has recently acquired a Wolves' jersey, and requires information on the garment. It's believed the jersey is from 1930 to 1950.
