Today, over 650,000 Canadians live with dementia and that number is expected to rise to 1 million by 2030.
That’s all the reason you need to sign up for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's in Sudbury on May 24.
“The walk will take place at the Laurentian Community Track, 935 Ramsey Lake Rd., from 10 a.m. to 12 noon,” explained a spokesperson. “In past years, our Sudbury Walk has seen around 200 participants and volunteers come together to raise funds and awareness for individuals living with dementia in our community.”
The event will feature activities such as a bouncy castle, games from the health promotion team, a dementia education booth, an opening ceremony, the Walk itself, and a closing ceremony. “We aim to keep the event simple to ensure our clients' comfort, allowing them to socialize and connect with others who may be on similar journeys,” explained the spokesperson.
All funds raised remain local and directly support programs and services for persons living with dementia and their care partners. Some of the programs offered locally include:
- First Link Care Navigation: Helping clients access the support they need within our organization and the broader healthcare system
- Recreation Therapy
- Transitional Support into Long-Term Care
- Behavioural Support
- Education Sessions
- Adult Day Program
“Without this event, we would not be able to offer the high-quality services our community relies on. Every dollar raised stays right here in our community, directly supporting the programs and services that assist individuals living with dementia and their care partners,” commented Shannon Ketchabaw, Executive Director at the Société Alzheimer Society of Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts.
She continued, “Your continued support in our community is what makes our annual walk possible. We are truly grateful for the generosity shown, whether through financial contributions, sponsorship, hosting your own walk, or volunteering your time. Every form of support makes a meaningful difference.”
