With an eye to expand its program offerings and reach, Collège Boréal will be launching its Practical Nursing program at its Kapuskasing, Hearst, Nipissing and Windsor campuses.

Effective September 2021, the Kapuskasing, Hearst and Nipissing campuses will offer the Practical Nursing program, whereas the Windsor campus will launch in 2022, once renovations, laboratory preparation and partnership development have been completed.

Expanding the program’s reach strengthens Boréal’s position as a leader in healthcare training. The Practical Nursing program, which is already offered at the Sudbury, Timmins and Toronto campuses, provides aspiring licensed practical nurses (LPN) with the training they need to enter a rewarding career. Industry partners have indicated that there is a need for nurses in the North, making this program especially valuable.

As members of multidisciplinary teams, RPN’s aim to maintain or restore health and prevent diseases. Accompanying people of all ages through their healthcare journey, RPNs perform their duties in an ever-changing environment.

The new two-year training program offers innovative teaching approaches on all seven of Collège Boréal’s campuses. Each campus will host its practical courses, labs and work placements in a face-to-face setting with a number of partners in the healthcare sector, while the theory courses will be delivered via Zoom.

Vice-President, Academic Affairs Lyne Michaud says, “Over the past ten months, our students have often told us that providing our courses through Zoom makes our programs more accessible. Accessibility is a strategic priority for our college and offering the Practical Nursing program in an alternative mode is a way for us to meet the needs of students.”

Established in 1995, Collège Boréal is a French language post-secondary training and learning institution dedicated to the development and growth of communities throughout Ontario.
