Dynamic Earth, home of the Big Nickel, is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary on Wednesday, May 10. To help celebrate the occasion, one of Canada’s top paleontologists will host a talk about the untold stories of British Columbia's dinosaurs and their unique finds.

Dr. Victoria Arbour will host two presentations at Dynamic Earth on May 10. A daytime presentation will be delivered to schools from 1pm to 2pm and the public is welcome to attend with the purchase of general admission tickets to Dynamic Earth. An evening presentation will take place from 7pm to 9pm which is completely free of charge.

Dr. Victoria Arbour, a leading expert in armored dinosaurs, is originally from Nova Scotia and is currently the curator of paleontology at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria. Following the talk, there will be a meet-and-greet with Dr. Arbour, giving visitors the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the fascinating world of dinosaurs.

"Dr. Victoria Arbour is going to be really focusing in on that Canadian story but specifically the British Columbian story...," says Jennifer Beaudry, Senior Manager of Dynamic Earth. "A lot of these fossil discoveries are found in mines, along beaches, and rivers. As you're journeying and hiking through the countryside, you're able to actually find some of these features, which is absolutely amazing."

Both presentations from Dr. Arbour will allow visitors to see the special exhibition, Dinosaur Discoveries.

The exhibition, split between Dynamic Earth and Science North, delves into the fascinating world of dinosaurs and paleontology, from the discovery and preservation of fossils to life-sized animatronic dinosaurs. "It's really that wholesome story of why each of these pieces is so important to our earth story," said Beaudry. "It's like a chapter in the Earth’s storybook. That's really our focus at Dynamic Earth.”

Dynamic Earth showcases a variety of ceratopsian skulls, animatronics of triceratops, ankylosaurs, and other dinosaurs, as well as an interactive triceratops model that allows visitors to climb right inside and explore the inner workings of animatronics. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of dinosaurs while also being enlightened by the engineering of the animatronic dinosaurs.

This summer, on Wednesday, August 23, Science North will host prominent Canadian paleontologist Dr. David Evans. Dr. Evan’s talk will also be completely free of charge and will allow visitors to see the special exhibition, Dinosaur Discoveries at Science North.

Tickets for the May 10 presentation are limited and can be reserved now at sciencenorth.ca and tickets for Dr. Evan’s presentation will be available on Science North’s website closer to the presentation date.
