There is always a good reason to surprise someone with a beautiful bouquet, and when that moment comes, Lougheed Flowers is here with a large variety of options. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Karen Halverson, Manager of Lougheed Flowers is ready to answer your questions and help you pick the perfect surprise for someone you care about.

The first thing to know is that while some people do indeed ask for spring bouquets, orchids, tulips or mixed arrangements, roses are still the most popular.

“The rose is king!” laughs Karen. “Everybody loves them and everyone wants to send them. We can do keepsake arrangements with vases, chocolates or stuffed animals,” she adds about how to personalize this choice. “People ask us all the time, what do the colours mean? Should I send white? Pink? Traditionally red means love but a lot of people enjoy sending yellow, peach, mauve, etc. If you look up colour meanings online you’ll get a lot of different answers. Basically, no matter what colour you send, you send the same message, ‘I’m thinking about you.’”

As with most businesses in the region, COVID has had an impact. Lougheed Flowers has adapted and ensures the safety of staff and customers.

“We are careful and follow the guidelines,” says Karen. “We have masks and screens and people have to sign in. We do a lot of deliveries and you can order by phone and pick up the arrangement as well. In fact, we encourage pre-ordering. That way you are guaranteed to get the item(s) you want. And, to be honest, it can be a little faster around Valentine’s Day. It’s a busy time with hundreds of deliveries. Pick up ensures you get what you want, at the time of day that works best for you.”

When you get one of those stunning bouquets from Lougheed Flowers, how can you make it last as long as possible?

“Just make sure there is enough water in the vase,” advises Karen. “Bring the arrangement over to the sink and put water in it, then put a dish under the vase on the table. Some people think you should change the water completely every two or three days. This is not necessary. Just top it up. The water we use for your arrangement has a preservative.”

The team at Lougheed Flowers is very excited about helping you make your loved one’s day.

“Valentine’s Day is my favourite time of year,” smiles Karen. “Everyone is happy and in love and wanting to express that love and affection. It’s a nice time. It’s our busiest day of the year and it’s such a happy occasion.”
