Overtime Sports Bar and Grill has organized and hosted a number of successful charity fundraisers at their Notre Dame Avenue location over the years. However, rather than go with the same ideas used in previous years, organizers of this year’s event have decided to wing it!
Sunday, December 15th, Overtime Sports Bar and Grill will be the place to be for their first ever Santa’s Wingo Bingo Night, a charitable fundraiser for Inner City Home of Sudbury. The idea is the brainchild of Overtime owner Attilio Langella, who has hosted dozens of charitable fundraisers at the popular local bar and grill. And according to Inner City Home President Joe Drago, the Wingo Bingo is an idea destined to take flight.
“Attilio has done a lot of fundraising for us in the past with various activities, and we have always greatly benefited from such activity,” said Drago. “In the past it’s been a tradition to host porchetta bingos. This year’s event is the equivalent of a porchetta night except we’ll be serving up wings. I think it’s going to be a big success.”
Inner City Home of Sudbury is a not-for-profit organization founded in April 1986 with the intention of providing shelter and emergency food bank services to those in need. After almost 37 years, the organization’s services and outreach area have expanded to make it the largest organization providing emergency and area food bank services in Greater Sudbury as well as providing high quality life-skills programs free of charge to the community.
Given post-COVID economic challenges, rising prices, higher interest rates, and demands for services from both locals and new immigrants to the area, Drago said the need for support from the community has never been higher.
“Right now it’s dreadful, the need that’s out there for people coming into the country and for people we already have in terms of food security,” he said. “It’s important that we raise the necessary funds in order to buy food and continue to serve these people in need.”
According to Drago, Inner City Home of Sudbury and its team of dedicated volunteers has serviced over 11,000 individuals in the past 11 months. Demand always increases during the holiday season, which makes the Santa Wingo Bingo event at Overtime such an important fundraiser.
“Last week we had two families come in, each with seven children,” said Drago. “Some people have only been in the country a couple days, they often don’t speak the language, have no money and no place to stay. Inner City Home is a place that will continue to work to provide food and other assistance to everyone who needs it. We see the numbers going up daily, and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.”
Tickets for the Santa’s Wingo Bingo event are $25 each and include wings plus all the fun and activities planned for the event.
Tickets can be purchased directly from Overtime or at the Inner City Home location at 251 Elm Street. The event runs from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.
