Spotlight: Five Real Estate Myths You Should Know the Truth About

In an industry that can be full of misconceptions, the Sudbury Real Estate Board (SREB) is spotlighting the most popular myths in a creative way: launching a new campaign to help dispel those mistaken beliefs and break down the real side of realty. 

The SREB’s #MYTHvsREALTY campaign kicked off this fall with the first of two videos featuring a pair of the most commonly believed myths – slightly exaggerated, of course.  The videos were created to be lighthearted and fun but also aiming to have people reconsider some notions they may have about the industry and its professionals.

So what are the most commonly heard myths that Sudbury Realtors® hear? Check out five myths that have a much different reality:

MYTH #1: Realtors® are lazy...it's a cushy job!

Being a Sudbury Realtor® is basically a 24/7 job!

For many of us, there is no "start and finish" to our days or weeks.  Nights, weekends, holidays... you'll often find us doing our best to serve our clients 24/7.

MYTH #2: If a house doesn’t sell in a week, the agent isn’t doing their job.

While sometimes properties do sell quickly, residential properties in Sudbury take an average of 70 days to sell.

At any given time, there are likely somewhere between 2,000-3,000 properties available for sale.

MYTH #3: You have to sign with an agent as soon as you talk to them.

Buying or selling your home is one of the biggest transactions of your life, and you should be partnered with the right Agent. 

Interview, and ask questions of your potential Sudbury Realtor® before signing any agreement.

MYTH #4: Realtors® will say anything to sell a property.

We won’t...in fact, we can’t!

Sudbury Realtors® are trained, educated professionals and are held to high professional standards through our governing body, RECO (The Real Estate Council of Ontario).

Any proven violations can result in penalties: fines, suspension of licence, or even banning of the offending salesperson!

MYTH #5: Selling a Home is as easy as putting up a sign and collecting money.
