Spotlight: Full Stockings and Full Bellies for Christmas Thanks to Sudbury Realtors

Christmas is the spirit of giving without the thought of getting.

This month, the Sudbury Real Estate Board (SREB) made Christmas merry and bright for 9 local organizations, handing over cheques totalling over $32,000 to the Sudbury Food Bank and eight shelter-based charities in the Sudbury community who help those desperately in need.

Since 2010, local Realtors® have contributed over $65,000 to a variety of worthwhile charities who deliver shelter, haven or protection services and provide/improve quality of life from hunger, the elements, physical/psychological abuse, disabilities and illness. This year, $9,905.04 was given out to the following eight charities:

  1. The Sudbury Kinsmen Family Centre Foundation
  2. Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation
  3. The Homelessness Network
  4. Sudbury Women’s Centre
  5. March of Dimes
  6. Sudbury Hospice Foundation (Maison Sudbury Hospice)
  7. Inner City Home of Sudbury
  8. YWCA

Funds for the charities were generously donated by local Realtors® and awarded through the REALTORS® Care Foundation, the granting arm of the Realtors provincial organization, OREA (Ontario Real Estate Association).  With all administrative costs covered by OREA, all donor dollars go directly to the shelter-related causes funded by the Foundation.  Over the last 40 years the Foundation has raised more than 6 million dollars for shelter-based organizations throughout the province on behalf of the Ontario REALTORS®.

An additional fundraising initiative was implemented for the Sudbury Real Estate Board’s annual Christmas Gala, with a Reverse Raffle, Silent Auction raising much-needed funds for the Sudbury Food Bank.  With 100% of all proceeds benefitting the organization, the SREB was able to provide the charity with over $22,000 in sales and donations, just in time for Christmas!  The Sudbury Real Estate Board was thrilled to have our community partner, HQ Mortgages, match every Reverse Raffle ticket sale with a $10 contribution directly to the Sudbury Food Bank, totalling $5000.

With the Food Bank’s phenomenal existing relationships with area food suppliers, the $22,160 will have the impact of over $132,000 in food buying power this holiday season!

Sudbury Realtors® are proud to serve and support our local community, especially at this time of year.

On behalf of our 370+ Members, the Sudbury Real Estate Board wishes you a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
