Spotlight: Get to your life goals at Life Zone

Life Zone Sudbury offers all the coaching, counselling, and consulting services that Sudburians of all ages and walks of life can take advantage of.

Life Zone Sudbury offers all the coaching, counselling, and consulting services that Sudburians of all ages and walks of life can take advantage of.

Owner Karen Hourtovenko has been providing services to help Sudburians succeed in all facets of life for over 20 years, and is also passing her knowledge on to others through training programs.

"I am an American Board certified trainer of advanced human performance techniques, that complement my other areas of knowledge" said Hourtovenko.

Life Zone is located at 2147 Armstrong St. and has been working with individuals, teams, and organizations to help support them in their overall goal achievement, personal, professional and organizational success.

The areas of success focused on include stress reduction, conflict resolution, team management, sport success, family, couple and individual conflicts, business management, effectiveness, employment change, and retirement/succession planning.

"I work with clientele from young children who have anxiety or other emotional challenges, to adults; I also work with business professionals who are looking to improve themselves, create their succession plan and how that looks to them because from their standpoint it is not just the business, but there's an emotional component as well," said Hourtovenko, who has a masters in business, doctorate in the field of mental health and is also a registered nurse practitioner.

"We look at the whole client and build a big picture; for some people it's counselling, for some it's coaching and consulting, depending on where they're going."

Hourtovenko's background in health care, along with her husband's profession as a cardiologist were big contributors to the inception of Life Zone, as the couple had witnessed first-hand, the revolving door of clients who were unwell.

"I decided that there was something wrong with this picture, what are we not doing well to keep our clients well, and it came down to we weren't teaching our clients to be well," said Hourtovenko. "So I started my own consulting business and I created the Heart Healthy Living Program which is a cardiac prevention program and started helping people manage their symptoms by changing their diet and lifestyle."

From that came a host of other needs, including people who were self-conscious about exercising in public, which spawned a small fitness studio alongside Karen's consulting practice, which evolved to a full fitness club and spa at the Armstrong Street location.

Roughly 10 years ago, Hourtovenko dropped the fitness club portion of the business and turned her focus to the coaching and consulting model that Life Zone operates under today.

While there may not be an on-site fitness studio, Hourtovenko does work with athletes looking to better their performance.

"I'm not doing the skills training, I'm doing the mindset training," she said. "If I had someone like a hockey player come in who has just been off his game, then we focus purely on where his mindset is and refocus that. However, we do look at the other things going on in their world to ensure there is no other stresses that we can work on."

Another service offered at Life Zone is life coaching certification, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Time Line Therapy and Hypnosis training, sales and self development training and much more, for those who want to take the skills of coaching, counselling and consulting back to their own workplaces.

"I have people who want to be educated and I offer training programs for them to become certified coaches and much more," said Hourtovenko.

Everything at Life Zone begins with a two-hour assessment that is done on an appointment basis. Clients do not need a referral to schedule an appointment for the assessment.

"We look at everything, from work, to personal, to health, any piece that would play a role in stopping people from reaching their goal," said Hourtovenko.

"Based on what their goal is, we shift it to that mindset and work on the model that best suits them."
