Three wildfires remain active in northeast region

Three wildfires remain active in the northeast region, two of them south and west of Timmins, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry said in today's release. 

The fires of note include: 

  • Timmins 11, a 4.6-hectare fire that was confirmed Thursday afternoon, is located south of Timmins, three km east of Kenogamassi Lake and six km west of Latimer Lake. It is being held.
  • Chapleau 13, a 0.2-hectare fire, is situated west of Timmins, four km west of Oakes Creek and three km south of Ochik Lake. It was confirmed yesterday evening, and it was reported being under control. 
  • Wawa 5 was also confirmed yesterday evening. It is a one-hectare fire and located two km north of Mosambik Lake and eight km southwest of Kabinakagami Lake. It is being held.

No new wildfires have been confirmed this afternoon.

The current fire hazard is moderate to high across the region. Pembroke, Timmins, Cochrane, and Hearst are showing a high fire hazard, the ministry said.
