A 25-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering and one count of mischief under $5000 after he gained entry into two houses just five minutes apart.

The police received a call at 10:35 p.m. alerting them of a man who had entered a residence on Keen Street, through an unlocked door. The homeowner was able to scare off the intruder, who fled before the police arrived.

At 10:40 p.m., the police received another call regarding a similar offence on First Avenue. The man had once again entered the residence through an unlocked door and demanded money.

When the homeowner did not comply, the man smashed a television and took off on foot again.

A K-9 search was conducted, and the man was found hiding in the hedges near Bayside Crescent and Second Avenue.

Greater Sudbury police are urging residents to lock doors not only for their cars but also their residences.
