Sudbury.com staff shoot photos and video of rescue squadron and volunteers during high-altitude simulated exercises

The Sudbury District Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (SUDSAR) invited members of the local media to board a Lockheed HC-130 Hercules search and rescue plane during a training exercise yesterday.

Joining them for the flight was Sudbury.com reporter Jonathan Migneault and new media reporter Patrick Demers.

Seven crew members from the 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron, based in Trenton, operated the large military aircraft, while volunteers helped them locate a missing float plane.

During the high-altitude training exercises near Long Lake, new media reporter Patrick Demers was able to snap some shots of both the rescue squadron and volunteers
.

Reporter Jonathan Migneault also shot footage of two squadron members parachuting out from the back of the plane.

The unit's members update their skills on a monthly basis, and train with members of the Airforce as often as possible.
