Summer camp season is rapidly approaching, and that means parents across the greater Sudbury area are faced with the annual dilemma of where best to enrol their children to ensure they have an exciting and enjoyable camp experience. For parents looking for a high-energy camp, Urban Air Adventure Park’s new Camp Urbie program may just be the perfect fit.
For the first time in its five-year existence in Sudbury, Urban Air Adventure Park is offering parents with children ages six to ten the opportunity for a truly unique summer camp experience. As Northern Ontario’s only indoor adventure park, Urban Air offers campers 25,000 square feet of fun in a fully structured and counsellor-lead program.
“Offering summer camps is something Urban Air parks do in the States,” said General Manager and franchise owner Tyler Arseneau. “We are excited to offer this awesome summer camp experience to kids in the Sudbury area. We’ve been asked a lot by parents about hosting summer camps. We’ve taken those inquiries and now we’re putting them into action and providing a hybrid summer camp utilizing both our park’s attractions as well as traditional summer camp activities.”
For those who may not be familiar with the facility, Urban Air Adventure Park offers the ultimate indoor adventure experience complete with a variety of thrilling attractions. In addition to the Pro Zone performance trampolines, Urban Air offers indoor zip lining, high ropes courses, rock climbing, warrior courses, dodgeball, and various other fun and interactive activities. However, before parents start thinking that their children will just be set free to run amok inside the park for the entire week, Arseneau said the camp programs will be highly structured and fully supervised.
“I think some people think we’re just going to let the kids loose in the park all day,” he said. “It’s definitely a structured week. The programs will run from 9am until 4pm and begin with two hours of guided play in the morning as the park is closed to the public at that time. Each camper will be assigned a private room as a ‘home base’ and a portion of the daily program will be held in the room where youth will enjoy a variety of activities, games, crafts and more.”
The Urban Air camp will also be providing lunch to participants on both Wednesday and Friday served from the facility’s restaurant café as they can accommodate most food sensitivities. Parents can either pack lunches for youth attending camp or send campers with money to purchase lunch on any of the days.
The camps will be offered to a maximum of 50 youth each week, with a ratio of one counsellor for a maximum of ten youth. That differs from many other summer camp programs that run with a higher ratio.
“That’s important to note,” said Arseneau. Our ratio of camper to staff is setup to provide a safe and enriching experience. Many of our current staff have run summer camps before, so they’re experienced and of course they are familiar with all our activities and safety protocols.”
Urban Air Adventure Camp is being offered for full week and half-day options starting July 8th and running every week except the holiday long weekend in August. The half-day program will be available from 9am until noon. The camp will be run fully indoors all summer, so programming won’t be impacted by the weather.
