Research Week: Celebrating women in science (video)

100 women researchers will travel to Antarctica for 12-month leadership program

While women make up 45 per cent of the global workforce, they remain underrepresented in leadership positions.

A Laurentian professor and researcher is participating in a program that wants to change that, and help promote more women in leadership roles in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Tammy Eger, a professor in Laurentian’s School of Human Kinetics and research chair in occupational health and safety with the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH), will participate in Homeward Bound, a 12-month leadership program, which will culminate in a three-week journey to Antarctica to learn about climate change and polar science.

In her leadership role Eger can encourage young women and girls to pursue careers in the sciences, and help make the world a better place along the way.
