Missing Markham resident Eugene Kim was believed to be in Northern Ontario. He was driving a Nissan Rogue.

The likely remains of a man that prompted a provincewide search, have been found in Laurier Township, just south of Trout Creek.

Yesterday, at approximately 3:22 p.m., OPP officers from the Almaguin Highlands Detachment got a call about an abandoned passenger vehicle.

When police arrived they found human remains within the vehicle, registered to Eugene Kim, who was reported missing in October 2017 from Markham.

He was 38 years old.

At the time police managed to trace a call to a cell tower in the North Bay area.

Kim had paid for a permit to enter nearby Algonquin Park sometime after making that call. Park staff reported Kim was with someone when he paid for the permit, but the family does not know who that person might be.

Kim is married with two children, a boy, six, and a girl, two.

The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed and a post mortem examination will take place in the coming days.

The Almaguin Highlands Detachment Crime Unit with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services are investigating and say information will be released as it becomes available.
