TIMMINS, Ont. – Charlie Angus is turning to the public to help him decide whether or not to run for the leadership of the feeral NDP.

The Timmins-James Bay MP on Sunday tweeted out a link to his website, where he calls 2017 a pivotal year for New Democrats, one in which the party will choose a new leaders and “be shaping the future of our country.”

Angus, who has been a favourite to seek the leadership since Thomas Mulcair last April was ousted by the party, says he’s reaching out to the public to decide what to do.

“Many of you have been encouraging me to run for the leadership of the NDP. However, before I make any decision I need to make sure that this project, this movement, is more than about me,” Angus says on the website.

“Now, more than ever, the New Democratic movement needs to be unafraid to speak truth to power, to listen to those that feel ignored, and to stand up for those that need it most. True progressive leadership is a team project.”

Angus goes on to say that if the NDP is to revitalize itself, it must stay rooted in the community.

“We need all of us to come together and work to offer a clear and passionate alternative to the same old revolving door of Conservative and Liberal governments. We need to reach out to all Canadnaians and let them know we’ve got their back.”

Angus then asks if readers thinks he should run and links to a survey asking the question – with only a yes answer as a possible response. He also makes a plea for donations and volunteers on the SurveyMonkey poll.
