Autumn's first blush tints Timmins foliage

Summer's over, but it's not all bad

By all accounts summer 2016 was great. The weather was warm. Great for gatherings at the camp.

There was plenty to do in town as well – concerts, Urban Park, Bacon Fest, farmers markets.

Now as September has settled in, the first blush of autumn has tinged Timmins. The downtown trees, which seem bigger than last year, have yellowed – one has gone rust red.

The hustle and bustle of summer has slowed right down. The empty chess table on Third Avenue. The once thriving patio at Vicky D’Amours Bakery is now empty.

And we are still waiting for Christopher’s Coffee House to open its patio . . . something to look forward to.

The playground at Hollinger Park — alive all summer with the squealing and squawking of children running up and down the playground equipment or cooling of at the splash centre — is silent now that the children are back at school.

The trees yellowing leaves blow in the heavy westerly wind.
