BARRIE, Ont. – A man wanted on outstanding warrants in Thunder Bay was arrested in Barrie for allegedly taking a selfie while holding a duck by the neck.

Barrie Police Service officers on a marine patrol spotted “unruly and suspicious behaviour” on Sunday where two men were visibly drinking and causing a disturbance on a public beach, according to a Barrie police news release.

The officers saw one of the men grab a duck by the neck and take a photograph with it and people on the beach confronted the men about their behaviour.

The first man allegedly provided a false name to officers and was arrested for obstructing a peace officer once his real name was identified. The subsequent investigation determined he is the subject of multiple warrants in Thunder Bay, as well as a recognizance order to not consume alcohol.

The 34-year-old was charged with cruelty to animals, obstructing a peace officer and failure to comply with recognizance. He was held in custody for a Monday bail hearing.

The duck was not injured, police said.
