Controversial ice hut owner gets two year probation for ice hut violation

An Astorville man who had proclaimed himself as the honourable Minister of Natural Resources has been placed under probation for an ice hut violation under the Fish and Wildlife Conversation Act.

Marc David Hyndman was found guilty of placing six commercial ice huts on a lake without the proper assigned identification numbers. Hyndman was placed on probation for two years and the ice huts were forfeited to the Crown.

Hyndman in protest went to the media claiming at the time that the MNRF had stolen his six ice huts.

Court heard that on January 16, 2017, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers went to Sunset View Point in North Bay to investigate a commercial ice hut tourist outfitter known as IceHutRentals.ca. 

It was determined that Hyndman, the outfitter, placed six commercial ice huts on Lake Nipissing for rent without a proper licence to operate.
