North Bay Mayor Al McDonald is reaching out to Americans and endorsing the community at the same time.

McDonald reacted to the U.S. election results where the controversial Donald Trump defeated Hilary Clinton.

“To all our American friends that are concerned about the results Tuesday night, I graciously invite and welcome you to move North @cityofnorthbay City of North Bay,” he said on Facebook.

“I am encouraging all my friends to share this message so our neighbours see how welcoming we are. Please share if you agree,” McDonald added.

The message came after thousands of American’s had threatened to move to Canada if Trump won the election and ironically on Tuesday night the immigration Canada website crashed due to the high level of activity on the site.

The North Bay Mayor isn’t the only Canadian community leader encouraging anti-Trump Americans to head north.

Cape Breton has its own website endorsing American’s to move to Cape Breton Island.  The site is here: http://cbiftrumpwins.com/#intro
