Investigation launched into death of a child in Elliot Lake

The Elliot Lake OPP have launched an investigation into the death of a child on Wednesday.

On Dec. 14, shortly after 6 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says it responded to a call for assistance from the Algoma District Paramedic Services at a residence on Bailey Lane in Elliot Lake. 

A child in medical distress was transported to local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Elliot Lake OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), the OPP Criminal Identification Services (FIS) and the Office of the Chief Coroner are conducting an investigation into the child's death. 

The investigation is continuing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
