NAPS officers lay drug charges at Attawapiskat Airport

An Attawapiskat man is facing several drug charges after NAPS officers seize $20,000 worth of drugs at airport.

ATTAWAPISKAT, Ont. - A 31-year-old man is facing numerous drug charges after attempting to smuggle more than $20,000 worth of drugs into a remote northern community.

According to a media release from Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, officers seized a large quantity of drugs at the airport in Attawapiskat on Monday, July 17 following an investigation.

Officers seized methamphetamine pills with a northern street value of $20,000, as well as a small amount of marijuana, and several bottles of alcohol worth approximately $420, and cash in the amount of $83.50.

A 31-year-old man from Attawapiskat was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.

The man has been released on conditions and will appear in an Attawapiskat court again on September 27, 2017.
