Former North Bay Regional Hospital nurse Melissa McLellan has received a four month suspension by the College of Nurses of Ontario, a self-regulating body for registered nurses and registered practical nurses in Ontario.
The College says McLellan committed professional misconduct by accessing 5,800 patient records over six years.

McLellan was fired from the North Bay Regional Health Centre in 2011 after allegations she breached patient privacy.
Charges stemming from unlawfully going through those patient records were dropped early last year because of a 16-month delay which the court says was attributed to the Crown prosecutors not moving quickly enough with the case.
