Back on September 1, 2019, at 9:10 a.m., North Bay OPP officers were called to investigate a motor vehicle collision on Highway 63 in North Bay between a bicycle and a passenger car.
The cyclist was identified as 24-year-old Shelby Dickey from Grey County.
As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old youth from North Bay has been charged with:
- Careless driving causing death
- Dangerous operation causing death
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay at a later date. The driver was not injured.
Dickey was a Nipissing University student-athlete.
At the time, the university made the announcement about the Lakers nordic skier through social media.
"This past weekend, Shelby Dickey, a student and part of our Lakers community for a number of years, passed away in a tragic cycling accident," the Nipissing University Lakers Facebook post stated.
"She recently completed her undergraduate degree and was to defend her Master's thesis."
A new memorial scholarship fund at Nipissing University has been established in honour of Shelby Dickey.
