Passengers travelling on the Ontario Northland’s Polar Bear Express will benefit from a new diner car put into service today.

The new dining car was refurbished at Ontario Northland’s Remanufacturing and Repair centre in North Bay.

“This piece of equipment is modern and very comfortable for our passengers. It is brand new and shiny. I think that our passengers are going to be really excited, as well as our employees who work on this car,” said Rebecca McGlynn director of marketing and communications.

“They will be able to enjoy meals, to receive service. It is just a great piece of equipment that was made in North Bay.”

Employees have been working on the car for the past year. It was completed a few weeks ago.

In a news release Tracy MacPhee, director of passenger operations expressed pride in the quality of the finished product.

“It’s amazing to see it come to life, after consulting with employees on the design and witnessing our skilled workforce at the manufacturing shop build it. I’m excited to hear passenger’s reactions to the new diner.”

The Polar Bear Express passenger train travels from Cochrane to Moosonee return five days a week year- round.

It is now going into its 55th year as a local commuter service.
