OPP investigating the death of a baby in North Bay area

The baby and mother were both brought to hospital, where the baby was pronounced deceased

NORTH BAY — OPP are investigating a baby's death after OPP North Bay Detachment officers responded to a home in East Ferris Township in the early morning hours Saturday.

"When officers arrived at the scene, they were met by Nipissing Paramedic Services," says  Acting Sergeant Shona Camirand. "Investigation revealed that a baby had been born at the residence. The baby and mother were both brought to hospital, where the baby was pronounced deceased."

The investigation is continuing with members of the North Bay OPP Crime Unit and the North East Region Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Detective Inspector Laura Houliston of the Criminal Investigation Branch and in coordination with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.    

A post-mortem exam is scheduled for May 6, in Sudbury.
