Speeding will be targeted by OPP this weekend.

OPP will be out patrolling the highways this Thanksgiving long weekend for a Provincial Traffic Safety Campaign which runs through Monday.

Officers are urging motorists to drive safely this Thanksgiving weekend.  With the public travelling to and from their weekend destinations, road users should expect to see much higher volumes of traffic.

"There will be zero tolerance for drivers who direct anything less than 100 per cent of their attention to driving," says an OPP release.

If you suspect that someone is operating a motor vehicle, vessel or off-road vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

By working together, the OPP and members of the public can ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving long weekend!

The campaign focuses on increasing public compliance with safe driving measures and targets the following behaviours known as the "Big Four" that put Canadian drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users at risk:

  • Alcohol/drug-impaired driving
  • Lack of seat belt use
  • Aggressive driving (including speeding)
  • Distracted driving
