Algoma District School Board advises parents/guardians of students at Chapleau JK-12 school of an update at the school.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have advised that to ensure the safety of students and staff, students at the school will be dismissed at this time

The school is currently contacting individual parents/guardians to verify if someone will be home to receive students who are bussed. Any student (elementary or secondary) who normally walks will need to be picked up to ensure safe arrival and the school will be contacting parents/guardians to confirm arrangements.

Busses were expected to be arriving at the school between 12:30 and 1 p.m. today. Further information will be communicated later today regarding whether school will proceed on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.

11 a.m. original release

Algoma District School Board advises parents/guardians of students at Chapleau JK-12 school that the school was in a lockdown situation earlier today which has now moved to a Hold and Secure.

In a Hold and Secure situation, outside doors remain locked and students, staff, parents/guardians and community members are not able to enter or exit the school. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently on site to assess the situation to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Parents/guardians of Chapleau JK-12 School will continue to be updated through ADSB’s automated messaging system. To assist with the management of the situation, Algoma District School Board stresses the need to keep phone lines open for communication with school administration and the police.

The Board has asked that parents/guardians do not call the school at this time. ADSB and the OPP advise parents and community members not to attend at the school until the police lift the emergency procedures – this is necessary to protect student, staff and public safety.
