Think you're having a bad day?

It's bad enough to have an accident...worse when the police show up to find illegal cargo over the roadway.

OPP say on November 23, at approximately 1 p.m., Kapuskasing Detachment officers were called to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11, west of Kapuskasing.

An investigation revealed that a pickup truck hauling a trailer had collided with a tractor-trailer unit spilling unmarked cigarettes from the trailer onto the roadway.

Neither driver was injured.

Officers seized the trailer with the unmarked cigarettes and impounded the motor vehicle.

The total estimated street value of the cigarettes is approximately $104 000.

The driver of the pickup truck, Luke Penasse, 60, from Sturgeon Falls, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of Possess Unmarked Cigarettes for Sale and
  • Attempt to Pass - Roadway Not Clear - Approaching Traffic

Penasse is scheduled to go to court on April 11, to answer to the charges.
