The Canadian Press has declared the Liberals to be the winners tonight in both the Sudbury and Nickel Belt ridings.

In Nickel Belt, incumbent Marc Serré held the lead for most of the evening, though it wasn't commanding. With more than 95 per cent of the polls reporting at this time, Serré has pulled ahead of NDP candidate Andréane Chénier by nearly 2,000 votes. Conservative candidate Charles Humphrey gave a strong showing as well, coming withing 400 votes of Chénier as the race neared its end.

The Canadian Press has declared Serré the winner for his third term as MP.

In Sudbury, the race was a back and forth affair from the get go. Liberal Viviane Lapointe pulled out to an early lead, but NDP Nadia Verrelli was right on her tail. The lead shifted between the two candidates for hours. At one point, Verrelli held the lead for a considerable amount of time, but as more poll results rolled in, Lapointe pulled ahead.

The Canadian Press has declared the Liberal the winner with 32.8 per cent of the vote and 195 of 220 polls reporting.

More to come.
