Dr. David Robinson is the Green Party candidate in the riding of Sudbury.

Sudbury Green Party candidate David Robinson opens his campaign office this evening.

The event will be held virtually, Robinson’s campaign manager said, due to the pandemic.

“It’s COVID,” said campaign manager Dan Cluff. “We don’t want to risk our members or the public, but we do want to make our candidate available, so we are doing a 21st century office for this election.’’

The event will be held this evening from 7-8 p.m. Members of the public are invited to tune into the Zoom event here.

“We will have some interesting visitors you can chat with, too,” said Dr. Cluff.

Invited virtual guests include:

  • Mike Schreiner, Ontario Green Party leader
  •  Dr. Dianne Saxe, environmental lawyer, former environmental commissioner for Ontario, and deputy leader of the Ontario Green Party
  • Bruce Hyer, past deputy leader of the federal Green Party and MP
  • Jeff MacIntyre, Sudbury media strategist
  • Shaughn McArthur, policy analyst, Green candidate for Pontiac, Que., and shadow cabinet critic for international affairs and defence
  • Andre Clement, author of “:Evolution to Extinction”
  • Pat Rogerson and Bill Crumplin, former Green candidates for Sudbury

An economist and former Laurentian University professor, Robinson said he is looking forward to speaking with Sudburians. Robinson ran for the Greens provincially in 2015 and 2018, and federally in 2015.

The campaign said Robinson will be available four times a week throughout the election at the virtual campaign office: Monday and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Robinson has called for an end to the fossil fuel industry, comparing society’s fight against climate change to war.

“We are literally in a war to save civilization.” he said. “The three old-line parties are ready to take some small, careful steps. I think people know deep down Canada is still not doing enough.

“These are dangerous times, but they are exciting, too. It isn’t a time for timid actions. We Greens have a blueprint: we can win this war. And we can make Canada a better country while we do it.”
