I Was Just Wondering: Flowers, perennials or annuals?

With gardening season around the corner, Finn’s thinking about flowers this week

Perennials are almost maintenance-free, while annuals come in a host of lovely colours. Tough to choose a favourite, Finn the Griffon says.

I’m thinking most of us agree that flowers are lovely and attractive. Many also have nice aromas.

There are many assortments. They bring joy and sustenance to birds, butterflies and other living things.

My mom has perennials and they are mostly maintenance-free. She cleans around them in the spring, if she remembers where she planted them, and they come up saying hello to the world and look stunning, when they are at their prime.

Then, there are the annuals. More time and effort in the early days of spring and summer. If I’m not mistaken (we all know how unlikely that is), there appear to be more options and colours with annuals.

They hang out with us all summer long and into the fall, if you remember to tend to them. Then they all leave us, it seems too early, until the next year when the cycle begins once more.

What is your preference, perennials or annuals?

“I Was Just Wondering” is a Sunday feature on Sudbury.com from Finn, a Brussels griffon breed of dog, and his “mom”, Jaana Pirnes. Come back next week to see what Finn is up to. Got a question for Finn? You can email him at [email protected].
