The defence lawyer representing the woman charged in a Melvin Avenue homicide in November of 2019 is canvassing dates in 2023 for trial.

However, the 2023 calendar for scheduling trials is not yet available, court heard on Tuesday, so the matter has been adjourned to Jan. 4 in assignment court.

Kiaro Chilton, 35, is charged with second-degree murder, possession of a weapon, two counts of breach of probation, and one count of breach of bail.

Chilton is represented by Mary Cremer of Toronto.

Greater Sudbury Police said they responded to a call on Nov. 18, 2019, “to check on the well-being of the residents” at a Melvin Street address.

“Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male within the residence,” the release said. “Shortly thereafter, the other occupant of the residence, a 33-year-old female was taken into custody for murder.”

Police said the parties were known to each other.
