Robert Steven Wright appeared in North Bay video remand court again April 10, and once again, the matter has been adjourned to another date.
Wright, convicted of second-degree murder in the 1998 stabbing death of Rénee Sweeney, is facing new charges laid by North Bay Police, including criminal harassment, forcible confinement and two counts of sexual assault from incidents predating his Sudbury murder conviction.
Wright is now being represented by Toronto lawyer Joseph Wilkinson. Aditi Iyer, a lawyer from Wilkinson’s firm, was on hand for Wright’s appearance.
The matter has been repeatedly adjourned to future dates while the defence waited for disclosure from the Crown. The defence has now received disclosure, but requested more time to review the video statements from the complainant, said Iyer.
The matter has been adjourned to May 1, once again in North Bay video remand court as Wright is serving life sentence for Sweeney’s murder. He is eligible for parole after 12 years.
