Talented up-and-coming Ontario jazz musicians have the opportunity to enter the Jazz Sudbury Emerging Artist Showcase, which closes April 30.

All performers who play around the jazz genre (soul, funk, blues, swing, etc.) whether they are a band, a duo, or a solo act are invited to showcase their talent and submit a three to five minute video performance to the Jazz Sudbury Facebook page for the chance to earn a spot in the festival lineup and a $1,000 grand prize.

The 2017 Jazz Sudbury Festival takes place from Sept. 6-10.

Jazz Sudbury hopes to once again find exciting emerging acts from the region and throughout the province.

“This is a great opportunity for young musicians that should be taken advantage of,” said Victoria Coate, marketing and partnerships officer at Jazz Sudbury, in a press release.

“Not only is there cash prizes but both the finalists and the winner get valuable on stage experience — with the winner playing the main stage of the Jazz Sudbury Festival!”

A panel of industry experts will narrow down the entries to the three finalists who will be invited to perform at a stand-alone show and headliner announcement event in June. Following a final decision from the judge’s panel, the Emerging Artists Showcase winner will be declared and will learn which headliners they will share the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre stage with in September.

Last year’s winners were Laura Swankey and Andrew Furlong, a duo from Toronto who wowed the judges with their original arrangements and traditional style.

The deadline to enter is April 30 at midnight.
