A Blues for Food kickoff party is being held at the Coulson Nightclub, featuring Sudbury's own Bluez Brotherz Showband and Revue.

A news release Friday said the event is being organized in support of the annual Durham Street fundraiser for the Sudbury Food Bank, which will be held June 11.

The Bluez Brotherz said in a news release they are “appreciative to have been approached by Craig Jefferson, the hotel’s booking agent, on behalf of owner, Tony Monteleone, with the idea of co-hosting an event in support of a cause dear to the hearts of many musicians, that of helping to feed the hungry.”

The goal is to further expand public awareness and support of the Sudbury Food Bank, the release said.

The 10-piece Bluez Brotherz Showband and Revue and its four-piece horn section “(look) forward to hitting the stage running in this venerable establishment, to deliver its two high-energy sets of the best of the original Blues Brothers Band.”

Admission is free, but patrons are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food.

“As an added incentive, those who do contribute food items at the kickoff will receive a special ticket to be entered into a door prize draw for two tickets to see Quiet Riot at the Azilda Mud Bogs on June 11 immediately after the Downtown Rotary Blues For Food event.”

Organizers are aiming to make the kickoff party an annual event  in support of the Sudbury Food Bank.
