A tribute to the late Leonard Cohen will be held Jan. 5 as part of the Northern Lights Festival Boréal regular spoken word open mic.

Cohen, a Canadian singer, songwriter, musician, poet, novelist and painter, passed away Nov. 7 of this year at the age of 82.

“Performers are encouraged to include some Leonard Cohen lyrics/poetry/literature this month,” said the event's Facebook page. “Of course, other material is encouraged as well. For this edition, we will even allow musical performance!”

The open mic event, which takes place at the Speakeasy starting at 9 p.m. includes spoken word, poetry, slam, novel excerpts, short stories, storytelling, hip hop and beyond. People can read their own work or share someone else's.

Admission is by “pass the hat.” Donations support the Northern Lights festival.
