Greater Sudbury Police are looking to arrest a man accused of deliberately starting a fire in an apartment on Wilma Street.

Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your day.

Police looking for alleged arsonist after Wilma Street fire:

Greater Sudbury Police are looking to arrest a man accused of deliberately starting a fire in an apartment on Wilma Street, on the edge of the Flour Mill, on Friday. Witnesses told police a man broke a window in the home and started a fire that caused about $2,000 in damage. The alleged arsonist then fled the scene on foot, a witness said. An arrest warrant has been requested for the man who was identified by the tenant.

Court date for teen with alleged kill list adjourned to July 24:

The teen at the centre of a violent threat to College Notre Dame will return to court on July 24. Zachary Pilon, 18, was released on bail on March 20 after he allegedly posted on social media in March his plans to commit violence against the students at his school. A post had circulated on Instagram warning that, on “Friday March 22nd, everyone will finally know my name… Look out CND.” He was arrested on March 23 at about 5:30 p.m. and charged with criminal harassment and uttering threats. His bail comes with a strict set of conditions, including a curfew that mandates he must remain in his father or mother's home between school hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, as well as an almost complete ban on using digital communication technology.

Fire that caused Sunday SilverCity evacuation started in janitor's room:

Greater Sudbury Fire Services said a minor fire in a janitor's room at SilverCity Sudbury Cinemas on Sunday morning was the cause of the theatre being evacuated — just as a screening of Avengers: Endgame was getting started. Platoon Chief Terry LaRocque said he doesn't know the cause of the fire, but the building's fire suppression system extinguised the flames. He said there was never any danger to patrons of the theatre, but the buidling was evacuated and it took some time to ventilate smoke. The theatre was up and running again by Sunday evening. Customers looking to claim a refund for missing their movie can do so by contacting Cineplex customer service online or by phone at (800) 333-0061.

'Total loss': Wahnapitae garage fire causes $250K in damages:

A garage fire in Wahnapitae Sunday afternoon caused about $250,000 in damages. Greater Sudbury Fire Services Platoon Chief Terry LaRocque said the fire's cause hasn't yet been determined. “It's still being investigated,” he said, adding that he was heading out to the scene Monday. He classified the fire as a “total loss.” Four fire stations responded to the blaze.

Not filling some jobs helped LU balance budget, fix $4.4M deficit:

Not rehiring certain administrative and academic areas helped Laurentian University present a balanced budget to its Board of Governors, which approved the $161-million spending plan on Friday. LU said this represents a growth of 0.2 per cent over last year’s budget and eliminates a $4.4-million deficit while investing in priorities outlined in the school's 2018-2023 strategic plan. The school had to deal with a major drop in tuition this past year. A dispute between CAnada and Saudi Arabia said the Middle Eastern country call home all of its students studying at Canadian schools, a move that cost Laurentian alone $3 million in lost tuition. On top of that is the mandated 10-per-cent cut to domestic tuition imposed by Ontario's Tory government, LU said. Get the full story here.

Day of Mourning services observed in Sudbury:

In honour of the International Day of Mourning, Sudbury's political leaders and community members joined in solidarity at Laurentian University's Fraser Auditorium Sunday morning for the countless workers killed, injured or who have become ill as a result of workplace hazard.
