Robbery at knifepoint leads to arrest of Manitoulin teen:

A teen from Manitoulin Island was arrested for robbery Saturday, following an incident that occurred at a resident on Meredith Street in Little Current. On Dec. 21 around 2:54 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received reports that a victim had had their cell phone stolen at knifepoint. The accused was located upon reaching the scene. As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), has been arrested and charged with Robbery with a weapon, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Jan. 22.

Ontario Northland’s donated bus will help shelter homeless residents:

Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC) has donated a used motor coach to provide temporary safe, overnight shelter for those who are homeless. The Shelter Bus is a motor coach repurposed into a climate-controlled mobile shelter with up to 20 beds, a kitchenette, lounge space and secure storage. Currently, one bus is operated in the Toronto area. It’s expected to cost roughly $100,000 to convert the motor coach to a mobile shelter, and Humanity First is undertaking a fundraising initiative to raise the funds needed. Read the full story here.

Club Richelieu joins forces to bring Christmas dinner to 125 local families:

Club Richelieu Les Patriotes capped off another successful Christmas basket campaign Saturday, with its annual packing party at École St-Joseph. Around 75 community members showed up to lend a helping hand, including club representatives, friends, family and players from the Copper Cliff major peewee AA hockey team, the Reds. This impressive show of volunteerism worked together to pack 125 'baskets' with chicken, meat, cheese, vegetables, canned goods and more for families in Greater Sudbury. Recipients were chosen according to need and nominated by administrative leaders at local schools and parishes, or members of Club Richelieu Les Patriotes. Wolves suffer their second shutout at the Elgin Street Barn:

Sudbury Arena welcomed the Wolves back to the ice Friday night, a little less than one week after suffering their first hometown shutout of the season. Unfortunately for the Pack, it would be more of the same this week against the London Knights. Read the full game wrap-up here.

Highschool basketball prepares to name its new city champ:

There will be a new SDSSAA boys hockey champion crowned this year, but with the teams heading into their holiday hiatus, it's pretty much anybody's guess as to who the new king of the mountain might be. A pre-season favourite coming in, the Horizon Aigles have not disappointed, posting an unblemished record of 10-0-0 through the first half of the campaign. That run, however, includes a handful of close calls, with victories over Lively (4-2), St Charles (2-1) and Espanola (2-1) that could have easily gone either way. If there is a surprise contender near the top of the standings, it would have to be coach Nolan Bell and the Lively Hawks. With a record of 8-1-1, the team which has generally resided in the Division II brackets the past few years is now up duking it out with the big boys, and proving that they are more than capable of holding their own.
