Greater Sudbury juice seller uses cold-pressing to preserve the nutrients and flavour in their colourful offerings

It was a trip to India to become certified yoga instructors in 2018 that would result in a Sudbury couple launching a cold-pressed juice business.

Echo Dawn and her partner, Dustin Campbell, are the co-owners of Osadhi Juice.

“Everywhere we went, there were cold-pressed juices available in a variety of flavours from pineapple to other local fruits,” Echo Dawn said.

Echo Dawn and her partner returned home and shortly after purchased their first hydraulic juicer.

“We were making smoothies, little elixirs and juices, and decided to share our newfound love with Sudburians using the Beards certified kitchen as a starting point,” she said.

Osadhi, a Sanskrit term that means “vital nutrients,” offers just that. No heat, pasteurisation or friction are used in the juicing process. The drinks are essentially raw fruit and vegetable blends that need to be consumed in three to five days.

There are four main flavours that can be differentiated by colour:

  • Amrita is yellow and contains orange, apple, pineapple and lemon;
  • Rajas is the red juice with oranges, apples, carrots and beets;
  • Sattva is green in colour with its apple, cucumber, lemon, kale and celery, and;
  • Tamas offers an orange hue with a combination of orange, pineapple, carrot, lemon, ginger and turmeric.

The Amrita and Tamas are the most popularly consumed flavours in the Sudbury area.

The blends are sold separately on the Osadhi website or in several local stores, including Beards, Good Grab, Paris Natural Foods, the Nickel Refillery, the Long Lake Corner Store and weekend market at Science North.

After taking a pandemic hiatus to have happy juice babies Rhea and Maya, who like all blends on a daily basis, Echo Dawn said the feedback this year has been wonderful.

“People say the juices are super-nourishing. There are different companies making cold-press juices, but closer to home means fresher and longer shelf life for customers here,” she said.

“It really is the best kind of juice you can ask for chalked with the most nutrients and vitamins.  Nothing is comparable.”

The family purchased its first home with a second kitchen in the basement that is the certified kitchen used for juicing purposes.

Here Echo Dawn can make about 100 juices per day, while working around being a parent, with the bulk of her orders being completed during the evening when the kids are sleeping.

Echo Dawn has lots of ideas for the future. She plans to pursue artistic endeavours and build property on Manitoulin Island, but for now she will continue juicing and teaching yoga once per week downtown at A Space to Breathe on Cedar Street.
