Vancouver's mayor is calling it quits. I take
my hat off to Larry Campbell. He brought humour, compassion and
even a trace of glamour to Vancouver.
He was virtually guaranteed to win a second
term, had he chosen to run again.
Campbell confessed that he wasn't as good a
leader as he thought he would be, also that he wasn't a good
politician, and he had made a lot of
mistakes.
He is setting a good example for many
so-called politicians in all governments, from municipal to
federal.
We have many people in politics who are not
cut out to be politicians, (but) it doesn't mean to say that
they are not good citizens.
There is more than raising one's hand in
favour or against a motion or being part of a committee, to
become a politician.
Wisdom, planning and vision is what you need.
If mistakes are made, you should not to be afraid to disclose
that a mistake was made. We all learn from
our mistakes. To become a good politician you
must be truthful with the ones that elected you.
Politics is not a game. Politics is to serve,
making the community a better place. Once again I thank
Campbell for his courage hoping that others in all
governments will do likewise concerning their
future elections, for the sake of taxpayers.
