Here is a suggestion for a terrific way to
solve Northern Ontario's bear problems. Our good provincial
government is so determined to "broadening the tax base" to
solve city problems, so why not broaden the home base of bears
too?
This could be easily accomplished in the
following manner. Every so called "nuisance bear" caught in a
trap will be transported only to the southern outskirt of the
city, there to be fitted with a special bear collar and
released.
This collar will consist of a GPS-controlled
zapper (similar to the dog's anti-bark collar) which will zap
the bear as soon as he turns in any northerly direction. A
bear, being an intelligent animal, will learn quickly the best
way to go is south. As soon as the bear reaches Barrie, the
collar will switch to standby. Bears, being adaptable and
intelligent, will have no problems enjoying the more plentiful
food in the south and stay there, allowing these meddling
southern do-gooders to put their money where their mouths
are.
This would alleviate our local bear
over-population problem in a most humane, efficient and
satisfactory way.
