In the week prior to Christmas, several
officers of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, while on calls,
noted two families in particular who required assistance to
realize a joyous Christmas.
These needs were shared with fellow officers
and civilian staff. Within two days $1,000 was raised to help
these families. The money was used to purchase food and gifts.
Additional food certificates were provided to help these
families through this difficult time. Several local businesses
matched contributions and gave generously to this gesture of
caring and kindness.
The parents and eight children represented in
these two families were overwhelmed by the arrival of present-
laden cruisers. I am told even the officers had watery eyes.
This is one example of the kind of people that serve and live
within the Greater City of Sudbury and who help to provide a
caring community.
Another fine example of The Reason For The
Season. Hats off to all those who participated in these acts of
kindness and to all residents in our community who give above
and beyond at Christmas and throughout the year.
