As the chair of the Capreol 100 Committee I would like to applaud the efforts of everyone who has been working so hard since the beginning of 2017 to help make this celebration an incredible success.

There has been a real buzz around the community for some time and seeing the result this weekend has been absolutely surreal .

Volunteers have devoted an incredible amount of time to beautifying the town,  fundraising, event planning and networking  ensuring that this year had something in store for everyone and that former residents from years gone by received ample time to plan a return visit.

The homecoming dinner on Friday night was attended by more than 800 people and the Capreol Days festival drew several thousand more into the downtown on Saturday.

A capital investment to renew Capreol's riverfront, nearly five years in the making was a fitting exclamation point earlier this week as the town looks to re-establish itself as a heritage and visitor destination for the City of Greater Sudbury.

A new splash pad at Doug Mohns' Park will provide new recreational opportunity for youth in the community.

The unveiling of a 1907 steam locomotive at the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum in June re-affirmed the town's commitment to preserving its rich railway heritage as well as its  desire to become one of the leading visitor attractions in northern Ontario.

All of the communities, and many neighbourhoods,  across Greater Sudbury are unique in there own way and possess their own distinct histories which need to be celebrated.

This year, Capreol has been a shining example of the potential that can be realized when citizens are working in concert with local organizations, private partners and all three levels of government to leverage resources and move a community forward.

This is the type of leadership that Greater Sudbury deserves and an example that I as mayor, I would bring to all areas of the city.
