A recent article in Northern Life stated
Sudbury's hospital emergency department is one of the busiest
in Ontario. With more than 65,000 visits annually, it provides
24 hours emergency services, seven days a week.
My question is: if the emergency department
is open 24 hours, why is there not a pharmacy open?
I found myself in the unfortunate position of
being in ER Dec. 26. When leaving at 9:45 pm, six-and-a-half
hours later, with a prescription in hand, I couldn't find any
pharmacy that was open.
The only pharmacy in town, which is normally
open until midnight, closed at 9 pm on this date.
Upon calling the emergency department, I
explained the situation. I was told they couldn't give me a
couple of pills to tide me over until I could get my
prescription filled in the morning.
I find this whole situation appalling. You
would think that a city the size of Sudbury would have one
pharmacy open 24 hours, seven days a week. If not the emergency
department should be equipped to give a couple of pills for
the
night.
