I am very concerned about the recent decision
made by the City of Greater Sudbury to close many recreational
facilities in outlying communities.
I grew up in Falconbridge, attended the
public elementary school and the nearest high school, both of
which have been closed; learned to skate at the local arena
(closing), learned to swim at the local pool (already
closed).
These small communities have a history of
nurturing their youth, providing a sense of belonging and
offering healthy opportunities and experiences needed to grow
into strong, successful adults.
I am saddened and concerned for these small
towns and dissapointed that amalgamation with the City of
Greater Sudbury has resulted in the devastation of these
communities, communities that had succeeded so well on their
own..
