Dragon Boat Festival raised $114,000 for capital campaign - Joe Drago

It is a pleasure to announce that the Alzheimer Society Capital Campaign enjoyed superb pledge results from the Dragon Boat Festival once again.

It is a pleasure to announce that the Alzheimer Society Capital Campaign enjoyed superb pledge results from the Dragon Boat Festival once again.

Receipts have already totalled $114,000 in one weekend, and we are very hopeful of matching last year's grand total of $125,000.

On behalf of the campaign executive, I would like to thank the Dragon Boat committee executive: Jim Smith, Steve Lee, Jim Dickson and all the organizational committees. I also extend my best wishes to the generous sponsors, the many participants, the countless volunteers, and bighearted individuals and businesses. Their continued support is always appreciated.

A commendation must go out to Canada Brokerlink Insurance and Dalron Construction who together raised more than $25,000 in pledges this year and totaled $39,000 in the last two years. They are truly amazing companies working within this community.

For help, the Alzheimer Society has always looked to the media and we have never been disappointed. Sudbury is very lucky to have people working in the newspaper, radio, TV and internet outlets who are caring, approachable and willing to help charities reach their goals. Thank you for helping out with this year's Dragon Boat Festival; your ongoing help is always welcome.

Funds to the Capital Campaign will help build a new Alzheimer Centre attached to the Pioneer Manor that will improve services for dementia sufferers and their caregivers. For more information or to donate, phone 671-9111.
