Aaron Taxi is being fined for doing an act of
kindness to a woman who needed to be picked up from an area
that Aaron should not have dared to tread (Northern Life, Feb.
11 edition Taxi driver calls city bylaw undemocratic).
Granted the taxi company broke the law and
deserves punishment, according to the nature of the crime.
Given the fact that the customer was more comfortable in a
known taxi and this may be a unique circumstance, the lawmakers
and enforcers needn't fear this becoming an epidemic.
The city should devote its time to refining
its bylaw. If the breaking of the bylaw helps an individual and
does not hurt anyone, that bylaw needs to be interpreted with
an understanding of the purpose of the bylaw.
The city should devote its time to eliminate
the major crimes that hurt people as seen under the heading
Police Beat in your newspaper.
