Not flying the Franco-Ontarian flag is a
shame. What has the city of city council got to lose?
What they would certainly win is having a
group of people who have built the heritage of Sudbury proud of
being recognized for their worth.
The town of Timmins has understood this
wealth and has welcomed it. When entering Timmins (at
Schumacher) many different flags are flying permanently-each
praising a facet of their multicultural society.
Timmins knows best, or at least better than
this community does, the importance of the Franco-Ontarian
culture.
Did the town councillors (who voted against)
know that the "drapeau franco-ontarien" originates from
Sudbury?
It was drawn up by a proud group of people
praising their roots.
The trillium on the flag represents Ontario
and the fleur de lys represents our French roots.
The green represents trees and faith and
white represents snow and purity.
The passion for the flag claims loud and
clear Franco-Ontarians will be around and ready to do their
share to build a better Ontario.
I urge the mayor and city council to fly the
Franco-Ontario flag.
If the Italians and other nationalities want
their flags to be flown, then fly them, as well at city
hall.
This is what being Canadian means. Lets have
a park full of flags if need be.
Reason before passion, maybe, but reason
without vision, never.
