Good place to live - Janice Skot

On the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 21, a small electrical fire sparked in the basement of the Daffodil Terrace Lodge at the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre. Fortunately no patients were harmed and the building experienced minor damage. Both accomplishments were made possible due to the intervention of competent and caring individuals from the cancer centre and HRSRH as well as the community.

On behalf of the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre, I would like to publicly acknowledge and thank our community partners: the Greater City of Sudbury Fire Department for their quick response to our call and for extinguishing the fire; the Greater City of Sudbury transportation department for sending two city buses to the lodge within minutes of our request and for making a bus available the next morning to transport the patients to the cancer centre for their treatment: the staff and management of the Howard Johnson Hotel who warmly welcomed our patients, efficiently registered them and provided a complimentary breakfast prior to their return to the lodge the next day.

Upon reflection, I can confirm "small town" spirit of caring people continues to play a major role in our community and reaffirms for me that the Greater City of Sudbury truly is a great place to live.
